Title: For the Director of Music. According to Gittith. Of the Sons of
Korah. A Psalm.
Scripture: Psalm 84:1 – 12
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ What a great and powerful psalm
chapter 84 is... it's filled with thanksgiving, gratitude and hope. The writer of this psalm is clearly very
positive and hopeful in God. But furthermore,
his words seem to have a degree of certainty, like these words were spoken from
a man of experience and credibility.
This author spoke of God's dwelling place as if he had been there. He spoke of his soul yearning, even faints -
wow such a strong description of his need for the house of God. His heart and flesh crying out for the living
God. Now, this clearly portrays a man in
longing for something that he spoke so highly about and the only way you can
speak so highly of something is when you have proven it to be true - either you
witness it yourself or you have a very credible source that is undeniable and
unbroken. The author described his
longing as if it is an immediate need.
One truth that this author spoke of that drove him to long for God's
dwelling place more is that those who dwell in His house are blessed and they
are ever praising God. Now let us look
into that for a moment, the question is, when do we praise God? Naturally, when something good and great
happened in our lives. So if we use this
analogy, we can say that those who dwell in the house of the Lord clearly is
blessed for what reason? Because
something good and great happens in their lives that cause them to ever praise
the Lord! Amazing!
In verse 5, the author elaborated
more by saying those who's strength is in God are blessed - why? Because when they pass thru the valley of
Baka, they make it a place of springs.
the autumn rains also cover it with pools, they go from strength to
strength till each appears before God in Zion.
Now this only tells me that for those who dwell in the House of God and
those whose strength is in the Lord - we will pass through many places but
whatever place we go to, we make it a place of springs and we will go from
strength to strength each day until we appear in the Lord. Isn't this amazing that there's assurance of
strength each day for us who dwells in the house of God? Isn't it amazing to know that wherever we go,
we make the place a place of spring? Isn't
it amazing that we can live with strength everyday - new strength daily because
we are in the journey of meeting the Lord.
So we can be assured that God's strength is in us! Hallelujah!
In verse 8, the author pleaded to
God to listen to him and look upon him with favor because better is one day in
God's court than a thousand elsewhere.
This author speaks of choosing to be a doorkeeper in the house of God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
For the Lord does not withhold anything good to those whose walk is
blameless. What an amazing assurance and
promise! The Lord does not withhold
anything good for us who walks blamelessly with Him and dwells in His house! We are blessed because we trust in Him! Amen!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, what a wonderful psalm! I am assured today that my place with You is
better than in any place I could have been.
I am assured that living with You in my life - even if it's a life that
has just enough or the lowest position in Your courts is way better than being
the queen or king of a kingdom far from You!
I am satisfied and happy to be where I am now with You and as long as
You are with me Lord. Because truly all
good things come from You and You never withhold anything good from us who
walks blamelessly with You. Help me Lord
to walk blamelessly and follow Your path always. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
