Title: A Psalm Of Asaph.
Scripture: Psalm 79:1 – 13
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ Chapter 79 is another psalm or cry
for help from Asaph. Another plea, cry,
prayer, etc to God to save them. Clearly
Israel has become ruined at this time for Asaph described it in this
chapter. The people had become objects
of contempt and scorn and derision to those around them - Asaph's word clearly
depicted a nation in destruction; an abandoned nation; with no king, no God and
no means to get out of this ruin they are in.
Asaph, cried to God asking Him, how long Lord? Will you be angry forever? - again, these are questions that we
ourselves ask but do not speak of loudly.
We only thought of these questions and we immediately dismissed
them. But Asaph was not afraid to call
things as it is. We ought to be honest
with ourselves too. To trust God but
also to acknowledge the present; to hope in the Lord but still be vigilant and
recognized the current situation; that's how we get to live in faith because of
our acknowledgement of the present circumstances but still holding on
faithfully to the promises of the Lord.
Asaph's words are true then and it
is true now. Verse 8, he spoke of their
desperation and their ultimate need... the need for a Saviour. Today, we have the same need daily. We ought to recognize this as we see the
troubles and circumstances we are in. This is the realization that ASaph came to be
after seeing the ruin and destruction of God's people. This is the true realization! Some people today when faced with troubles,
instead of recognizing their need of God, they repel and rebel more against Him. Now that's the wrong outcome of this
all. Like, Asaph, we ought to recognize
the truth - the truth that we need the Lord each day and only Him can save and
rescue us. Then our deliverance will
lead us to praise Him forever from generation to generation so we proclaim His
praise.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, what a wonderful
message. The constant recognition of our
need for You must be done daily too. If
we choose to praise You every day and make it a habit. It is also important to acknowledge that we
are to recognize our desperate need of You to save and rescue us each day. Remind me of this daily Lord that I may live
each day with a constant reminder that You are my Saviour and You are all I
need to survive and be delivered from whatever ruin I am in today. Thank You Lord. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
