Title: David
and Mephibosheth
Scripture: 2
Samuel 9:1 – 13
God’s
Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→
David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to
whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” Now there was a servant of
Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and
the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” “At your service,” he replied. The king
asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show
God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he
is lame in both feet.” “Where is he?” the king asked. Ziba answered, “He
is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.” So
King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel
NOTES:
Ø
God will track us just to show His kindness! Amazing! God will not allow us not to experience His
blessings, goodness and kindness. David
is already kind yet, he took the time to find for anyone who is related to
Jonathan, his bestfriend. God’s heart is
the same! He will make time to find us
and ensure that we experience His goodness in our lives. Wow!
Who else like the Lord?
None! Thank You Lord for Your act
of kindness that will track me down so that I get to enjoy it!
→ When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David,
he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,”
he replied. “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for
I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I
will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and
you will always eat at my table.” Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What
is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” Then
the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your
master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. You and
your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the
crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And
Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba
had fifteen sons and twenty servants.) Then Ziba said to the king, “Your
servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So
Mephibosheth ate at David’s[a] table like one of the king’s
sons. Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s
household were servants of Mephibosheth. And Mephibosheth lived in
Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.
NOTES:
Ø
God remembers everything we do and blesses us for it
including our sons and daughters and the children of our children. When God blesses us, He not only
pours it down on us but rain it down on us and our family. The extent of God’s blessing is reaching to
our descendants! Even to our descendants
who are not yet born. Mephibosheth was
not in the picture when David and Jonathan were friends, yet the goodness they
both showed to one another, impacted him as David rewarded him for his father’s
sake. God sees things the same. He extends His blessings and pours it out to
us and to our children and children’s children.
So when we do things for God, we don’t focus on what we can get in
return but know that God will bless us including our whole family or our whole
clan. Halluljah!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus
amazing Father, marvelous King, awesome Lord and the Great I am! Lord thank You because You are the source of
all good things. Thank You because Your
goodness fills our lives and embraces us wherever we go. I am speechless to see Your good works in my
life every day. I am left with no words
enough to express my gratitude for You will track me down to just bless
me. You will go thru that length to find
me and seek for where I am just to show me Your kindness for Your Son’s sake,
Jesus. Thank You Lord because this
kindness extends not only to me but to my whole household including my whole
clan. They are bless because of me and I
am bless because of the people before me but all of these were made possible because
of Your Son, Jesus Christ. So again, it
all boils down to You Lord. Thank You
very much. Help me to continually see
Your goodness in our lives every day and help us to be grateful at all
times. I love You Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
